Additional medications for hyperthyroidism

Additional medications that doctors may use to treat the symptoms of hyperthyroidism include:

Beta-blocker medications, including propranolol (such as Inderal), atenolol (Tenormin), or metoprolol (Lopressor), to control a fast heartbeat, tremors, sweating, and nervousness. Your doctor may prescribe one of these medicines while you are waiting for antithyroid medicine or radioactive iodine treatment to start working.
Medicated eyedrops, if your eyes are irritated.
Corticosteroid medications, to control any pain or swelling in the thyroid gland.
