Other conditions with symptoms similar to cystic fibrosis
It may be difficult to tell the difference between some symptoms of cystic fibrosis and symptoms that are caused by other conditions.
- Breathing problems that are related to cystic fibrosis can be similar to those that are caused by other lung conditions, such as:
- Frequent infections may occur with cystic fibrosis. Repeated infections also may develop from conditions that cause an impaired immune system, such as HIV infection.
- Problems with digestion and the absorption of nutrients may be confused with celiac disease or other conditions that affect the digestive system.
